Tips for Managing Depression

Depression is a real sneaky thing. Especially the debilitating bipolar kind (and yes I am making a distinction here).

One moment you’re ready to rock and slowly depression creeps up on you, planning its attack. So, when it strikes what can you do about it?

Here’s an extensive list:

  • Put your feet on the ground every day.

That’s it. That’s the advice. Of course I could go into the typical things of, “get more exercise” etc. I won’t because the last thing anyone wants to do while depressed is exercise. I mean it’s an achievement to brush your teeth.

It goes without saying that you’re taking your medication (despite me having just said it).

So, that’s my one tip. If on day one you manage to put your feet on the ground, tomorrow perhaps you can take two steps. Maybe. Promise yourself that you will try. And if you don’t, then you don’t.

Good luck, Bipolar Bears.
